The Texas Water Resources Institute (TWRI), Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and the Angelina and Neches River Authority will host an online meeting on March 25, 2021 to discuss the framework of the Implementation-Plan (I-Plan) to help address the bacteria impairments in the Jack, Cedar, Hurricane and Biloxi creeks, tributaries of the Neches River below Lake Palestine.
The online meeting will be held at 10 a.m. Participants interested in joining the meeting online can register here: Tributaries of the Neches River below Lake Palestine I-Plan Meeting. Pre-registration is required to attend the meeting.
Anna Gitter, TWRI research specialist, encourages local stakeholders who are interested in improving and protecting the water quality of Jack, Cedar, Hurricane and Biloxi Creeks to attend the online meeting. The four tributaries fail to meet the water quality standards for contact recreation, due to elevated concentrations of the fecal indicator bacteria, Escherichia coli.
Gitter said the meeting will continue the stakeholder-driven process to develop a plan to restore and protect the local water resources.
“The planning process will help develop a road map for improving water quality,” she said. “There will be a discussion on practices that can be implemented or continue to be implemented to improve water quality.”
Carla Ethridge, Clean Rivers Program Manager at the Angelina and Neches River Authority, said that local stakeholder involvement is critical to improve water quality in these creeks.
“Input and guidance from local stakeholders will help identify which practices and activities to improve water quality are most appropriate and feasible,” she said.
The webinar is a part of a series of meetings that will be hosted with local stakeholders to address the bacterial impairments in Jack, Cedar, Hurricane and Biloxi creeks.
